The Oak Harbor School District will have a vacant elementary school this year, and after months of debate, the school board has settled on a plan for it.

Monday night, the board voted to relocate HomeConnection, a program combining home-schoolers and public schooling, to the former Clover Valley Elementary School.

Another part of the campus will be used for an early childhood development center.

“Our tentative schedule is to start work in June or July and the students will start in September,” said Lance Gibbon, assistant superintendent.

Gibbon showed the board plans for a campus renovation which includes installing new interior doors, building a new playground fence, adding a new eight-foot wide sidewalk to the drop-off area and replacing deteriorated asphalt. The board voted that the budget will not exceed $250,000.

In an upcoming meeting, the board will also vote whether to relocate Midway High School, to the ground floor of the Administrative Service Center at an upcoming meeting; a space that is currently occupied by Head Start and Home Connection. The school is presently located on Midway Blvd.
