Hannold increases his lead in latest count

The race between Hannold, a Republican, and Camano Island Democrat Karla Jacks was too close to call on election night with just 301 votes, or about 2 percent of the vote, dividing them.

Hannold’s lead increased to 416 votes in the latest count. Hannold has 12,928 ballots cast in his favor and Jacks has 12,512.

Republican Wanda Grone continues to have a sizable lead in the race for county treasurer over her former boss and the Democratic incumbent, Ana Maria Nunez.

Grone has 13,510 votes, or 54 percent, and Nunez has 11,423, or 46 percent.

In addition, Republican County Auditor Sheilah Crider is outpacing her independent challenger, Rebecca Wagner.

Crider has 13,377 votes, of 56 percent, and Wager has 10,441, or 44 percent.

The Island County Auditor’s Office reports that 27,148 ballots have been counted so far, which is 54 percent of registered voters in the county. The next count is scheduled for Thursday at 4:30 p.m.

Certification is Tuesday, Nov. 25. The successful county commissioner candidate will take office after certification because the current commissioner for the district, Aubrey Vaughan, was appointed.
