For one night only, the Oak Harbor Hallmark store will be magically transformed from a card shop to a USO cantina, complete with big band music and a dance contest.

Store manager David Coffman came up with the USO World War II theme and now employees are bustling around in an effort to turn the store into a swingin’ 1940s cantina for the evening, which will benefit Toys for Tots, a nonprofit group that collects toys in October, November and December and then distributes the gifts to disadvantaged children over the holiday season.

World War II era music from the big bands to Bob Hope’s base tours will reverberate through the card shop, creating a nostalgic ambience while emcee Fil Baca will narrate the event’s schedule and call out the games and contests.

Dottie Morgan, a Hallmark employee, is helping with the decorations.

Plenty of prizes will be on hand for game winners and Morgan hopes to have an exciting show of talent during the jitterbug contest.

Participants are encouraged to donate to Toys for Tots, socialize with friends and enjoy cake, finger food, wine and coffee.

The Hallmark USO Cantina Toys for Tots fundraising event will take place on Thursday, Nov. 6, from 4 to 7 p.m. at McBride’s Hallmark, 31595 Highway 20, next to Rite Aid. Call Hallmark for more information at 675-1151.
