In spite of inclement weather, members of the Oak Harbor First United Methodist Church left the building on Saturday, May 21, to work on various projects throughout Oak Harbor as an outreach into the community. This marks the third year that both young and old dedicated a day of their lives to enrich the area in which they live.

Projects included picking up trash between Swantown and Monroe Landing roads, filling 21 bags with highway litter. Three years ago, as much as three times that number were collected when the Adopt-A-Highway project was initiated. This task is done by church members three times each year.

Other projects completed were painting the gazebo at Smith Park, working on the Habitat for Humanity construction site in Crosby Commons, delivering flowers to residents in assisted-living facilities and doing landscape and yardwork at the Christian School and at Margi’s House.

The community is always welcome to help during this yearly event and notices will be made available prior to next year’s date so more people can join the effort.
