The Coupeville High School soccer team surprised South Whidbey 2-1 earlier this season, but the Falcons avoided another upset by blanking the Wolves 5-0 Friday, April 18, in Langley.

The Falcons exploded for four second-half goals while limiting the Wolves to no shots on goal.

The loss put a dent in Coupeville’s hopes of making the playoffs. Two of the three 1A schools in the Cascade Conference advance to the post season. South Whidbey leads the list with a 6-2-1 (8-2-1) record, followed by King’s (4-3-1, 5-4-1) and Coupeville (3-6, 4-6).

Coupeville has five conferences matches left.

The Wolves play a nonleague match at Friday Harbor (0-11) at 4:30 p.m. Monday, April 21, then host Lakewood (2-5, 2-6-1) at 6 p.m. Tuesday, April 22.
