A man and two women are facing charges related to a robbery of the AM/PM gas station in Oak Harbor last year, according to court documents.

The trio allegedly hatched the plan to rob the store because they were all “dope sick” and wanted money to buy heroin, the police report says.

Prosecutors charged Colton K. Shorkey, 25, in Island County Superior Court Feb. 23 with robbery in the second degree.

Victoria Garza, 31, and Megan E. Steele, 29, were also each charged with being accomplices to second-degree robbery.

On Aug. 26, the clerk at AM/PM reported that a masked man jumped across the counter and stole a gray money bag filled with cash. The clerk said the robber warned that he had a knife, but the clerk didn’t see one; he chased the masked man and lost sight of him at a nearby retirement home, according to the police report.

The three suspects gave police differing accounts of what happened.

Both of the women said they knew that Shorkey committed the robbery, but they denied they were directly involved.

Shorkey allegedly admitted committing the robbery but also implicated the women.

He said they were all sick from heroin withdrawal and needed the money to buy dope.

Shorkey claimed that Steele was the get-away driver and Garza was the lookout; they communicated through walkie talkies during the robbery, the officer wrote in the report.

The robbers got away with $600, the report states. The threesome spent $100 on heroin and then went to a casino, where Garza was ditched by her companions, the report states.
