Depth helps Wildcat boys take 2nd, girls 3rd in North meet | Track

Riding their depth, the Oak Harbor High School track teams finished in the top half of the team standings of the Wesco North Divisional Championships Wednesday, May 11, and Friday, May 13, in Arlington.

Riding their depth, the Oak Harbor High School track teams finished in the top half of the team standings of the Wesco North Divisional Championships Wednesday, May 11, and Friday, May 13, in Arlington.

The Wildcat boys finished second and the girls third in the six-team meet although each won only one event. The boys collected 13 seconds or thirds, and the girls had 13 top-five finishes.

Mac Nuanez captured the boys 400 meters (52.76) and Jenna Cooley, Matti Miesle, Janae Payne and Alana Austin won the girls 4×200 relay (1:47.17).

Arlington won both the boys and the girls meets.

The Eagle boys led Oak Harbor by only a half point after the finals in five events were held Wednesday but pulled away Friday to pile up 227 points. Oak Harbor had 163.5, Everett 86, Stanwood 70, Marysville-Pilchuck 61.5 and Marysville Getchell 42.

The Wildcat girls were fifth Wednesday but jumped to third in the final standings with 93 points, trailing Arlington (216.5) and Stanwood (186). Marysville-Pilchuck tallied 69, Everett 63 and Marysville Getchell 59.5.

Oak Harbor will compete in the district meet at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 18, and 5 p.m. Friday, May 20, at Marysville-Pilchuck High School.
