Coupeville players helped the North Whidbey 9/10 Little League softball team thump Sedro-Woolley 17-7 Monday, July 8, at Volunteer Park in Oak Harbor to claim the District 11 championship and a berth in the state tournament.

Coupeville players helped the North Whidbey 9/10 Little League softball team thump Sedro-Woolley 17-7 Monday, July 8, at Volunteer Park in Oak Harbor to claim the District 11 championship and a berth in the state tournament.

The North Whidbey/Coupeville Junior Baseball (13/14) team can earn its own state berth with a win over South Skagit at 6 p.m. Tuesday, July 9, at Fort Nugent Park. The Whidbey club defeated South Skagit 14-8 Monday to set up the winner-to-state game.

 

9/10 Softball

The North Whidbey softball team, which includes Central Whidbey players Mollie Bailey and Chelsea Prescott, fell behind 5-0 in the first inning but came storming back to win the title game in four innings.

Haley Abbott tossed the first two innings and Prescott, who allowed only one hit, closed out the game. The pair combined to strike out nine.

The state tournament is in La Center July 13-20. North Whidbey opens with a 3 p.m. game Saturday, July 13, against the District 13 (Spokane area) champion.

 

Junior (13/14) Baseball

South Skagit defeated North Whidbey/Coupeville 14-6 Saturday, so the Whidbey team needs to defeat South Skagit twice to take first place.

It picked up the first win Monday thanks to help from throughout the lineup. Eight different players produced hits, led by Coupeville’s Clay Reilly and Jimmy Myers with two singles each.

Coupeville’s Jonathan Thurston and Jake Hoagland also singled.
