Coupeville High School leads the way to graduation night

More than 80 students of the class of 2010 will put the finishing touch on their education in Coupeville as they graduate Friday night. This year’s graduating class features one valedictorian, Jordan Lamb, and three salutatorians, Sasha Leaman, Garrett Knoll and Tyler Boonstra.

More than 80 students of the class of 2010 will put the finishing touch on their education in Coupeville as they graduate Friday night.

This year’s graduating class features one valedictorian, Jordan Lamb, and three salutatorians, Sasha Leaman, Garrett Knoll and Tyler Boonstra.

The class of 2010 earned nearly $1 million in scholarships, $850,000 from colleges and universities, and $67,000 from Whidbey Island organizations.

Counselor Christie Sears pointed out that 20 percent of the senior class earned the Washington State Honors Award, which recognizes the top 10 percent of the graduates in Washington. Individually, Kaytlin Smith is a National Merit Scholar and she’ll attend Whitman University in the fall. Boonstra was one of three students in the 10th Legislative District to be named a Washington State Scholar. He will attend either the University of Washington or the University of Pennsylvania in the fall.

Coupeville’s graduation takes place Friday, June 11, 6 p.m. in the school’s gymnasium and caps a week of events marking the class of 2010’s achievement. Even with the celebrations, seniors are busy in class taking their final exams.

Baccalaureate occurs today, June 9, at 7 p.m. St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Coupeville.

Oak Harbor High School’s graduation takes place Monday, June 14.
