Coupeville: Feral cats hurt town

Regarding the ongoing feral cat saga,

Regarding the ongoing feral cat saga, and in response to the Junkans letter of Feb 16, who advised that some people should take a look in their own backyard before criticizing.

I took a look and what I saw was a sandy beach full of cat feces. Cat food and bird seed in the streets. The ever-scurry of cats under our buildings and nightly howl of cat fights or whatever. There are no more shore birds nesting and nary a cute little mouse but a growing healthy rat population.

Those who feed pigeons and feral cats are well intentioned, but misdirected. They are supporting a feral cat farm in a commercial district that already has enough problems with keeping garbage contained and streets looking clean.

I might suggest that when and if they catch these cats they consider releasing them in their own back yard.
