The Coupeville High School softball team scored four runs in the bottom of the seventh inning but came up one run short in a 7-6 loss to visiting Friday Harbor Saturday, April 18, in a nonleague game.
The Wolverines (6-4) scored five of their seven runs in the top of the third inning.
McKayla Bailey took over in the circle in the fourth inning for the Wolves, shutting down Friday Harbor, but the Coupeville offense couldn’t quite fight all the way back.
The teams traded runs in the first inning.
In Coupeville’s half, consecutive singles by Katrina McGranahan, Bailey and Hailey Hammer produced the Wolves’ run.
The Wolves went ahead in the second inning. Monica Vidoni singled and eventually scored on a sacrifice fly by Tiffany Briscoe.
Coupeville wouldn’t score again until the seventh.
In the last inning rally, a walk to Jae LeVine and hits by Lauren Rose, Briscoe, McGranahan Hammer and Hope Lodell brought the Wolves back into the game.
The inning ended a run short and with runners on the corners.
Coupeville (2-0, 3-5) travels to Klahowya (0-0, 3-4) for a 4:15 p.m. game Tuesday, April 21.
