Sometimes the ball just doesn’t bounce your way.

The Coupeville High School soccer team played Lakewood even up Tuesday, April 22, at Mickey Clark Field, but the score board displayed a 3-0 Cougar win.

“I thought we played them straight up,” coach Kyle Nelson said. “

The Cougars scored two early goals on redirected balls that rattled around the box and found the back of the net.

“Balls ricocheted off shoulders and bodies, changed direction and made it tough on our goalie,” Nelson said.

“I liked the effort of our team,” Nelson said.

Injuries limited Coupeville’s depth the past four games with four varsity players missing.

“It’s been a revolving door of who is out,” Nelson said.

Coupeville (3-7, 4-7-1) journeys to Sultan (2-7-1, 2-8-2) at 7 p.m. Friday, April 25.
