Candy theft in Oak Harbor spawns felony charge

A man who stole Reese’s Big Cups and Twix from a store Monday morning is facing a felony charge.

A man who stole Reese’s Big Cups and Twix from an Oak Harbor store Monday morning is facing a felony charge, according to court documents.

Blaine R. Anderson had previously received a trespass admonishing that banned him from going into the Safeway grocery store. As a result, Anderson’s decision to enter the store and help himself to sweets can be considered burglary, court documents state.

A manager at the store reported the candy heist to police. Surveillance video showed Anderson walking down several aisles before stealing candy from the check-out stand and walking out, the police report states.

An officer found Anderson outside of the store soon afterward and arrested him. The report notes that Anderson had already consumed the pack of Twix and was eating the Reese’s.

The report states that Anderson has an extensive history of trespass and theft charges.

Anderson appeared in Island County Superior Court Oct. 23. The judge found probable cause existed to believe Anderson committed the crime of burglary in the second degree. Anderson’s bail was set at $1,000.
