Burning ban in effect Aug. 1

Outdoor burning won’t be allowed in Island County as of Aug. 1.

Outdoor burning won’t be allowed in Island County as of Aug. 1.

Sheriff Mark Brown, acting as the county fire marshal, put a burn ban in effect due to “atmospheric conditions of reduced moisture levels, low humidity, and warm weather.”

The burn-ban proclamation also notes “the reduced availability of firefighting resources” in the county.

The ban means that the burning of debris “even those previously approved by permit,” will not be allowed.

Recreational or cooking fires are only allowed in approved fire pits, barbecues or camp stoves.

The burn ban is being instituted in concurrence with the four fire districts in the county and the Northwest Clean Air Agency.
