Blue Herons place at regional championships | NWAC

Five members of the North Whidbey Aquatic Club competed against the region’s top swimmers at the Pacific Northwest Swimming 14 and Under Short Course Championships Dec. 11-13 in Federal Way.

Five members of the North Whidbey Aquatic Club competed against the region’s top swimmers at the Pacific Northwest Swimming 14 and Under Short Course Championships Dec. 11-13 in Federal Way.

Lindsay Brown, 10, led the way for the Blue Herons, scoring 42 team points and posting four personal bests in six swims.

Brown earned three top-10 finishes in the 10 and under division: fifth, 500 freestyle, 6:32.82; sixth, 200 individual medley, 2:42.14; and ninth, 100 backstroke, 1:15.62.

Ashleigh Merrill, 12, recorded four top-10 finishes in the 11-12 division while picking up 40.5 team points: fifth, 1,650 free, 19:39.86; ninth, 400 IM, 5:05.3; ninth, 500 free, 5:47.32; and 10th, 200 IM, 2:25.36.

Other highlight swims, according to coach Dick Taylor, came from Alana Miller, 10 (sixth, 100 butterfly, 1:14.55); Lea Opdyke, 10 (200 free relay split, 31.71); and Kiersten Tyson, 9 (23rd, 100 free, 1:12.44).

 

Other top-25 finishes for the Blue Heron:

Brown: 11th, 100 fly, 1:18.53; 17th, 200 free, 2:31.64; 19th, 100 breaststroke, 1:29.09.

Merrill: 15th, 50 free, 27.37.

Miller: eighth, 50 fly, 32.81; 11th, 100 back, 1:15.87; 25th, 50 free, 31.94; 25th, 50 back, 37.3; 25th, 100 free, 1:14.2.

Opdyke: 24th, 100 free, 1:12.85.
