Scoring in double digits for the second consecutive game, the host Oak Harbor High School baseball team mauled Monroe 12-4 Thursday, March 24.

Monroe (1-3) scored in the top of the first, but Oak Harbor quickly took control with four spots in both the first and second.

Walks to Sam Wolfe and Jay Stout started the first. Hits from Yale Rosen, Ryan Evans and Corey Cameron produced the runs.

In the second, Gabe Clark doubled and Wolfe singled. A balk plated one run, then Stout’s bunt single scored another. A double steal scored the third run, then Rosen doubled in the fourth.

Oak Harbor added two more in the fifth on an error after Evans and Ryan Byrne singled.

The final pair of runs came in the sixth. Justin Counts singled and scored on Evans’ double. Byrne singled in Evans.

Clark started on the mound for Oak Harbor and scattered seven hits over five-and-two-third innings. He struck out four, walked one and allowed one earned run.

The Wildcats’ 13-hit attack was led by Evans who was 3-for-4 with three runs, two RBI and a double.

Rosen finished 2-for-4 with a double, two runs and two RBI. Byrne was 2-for-3 with two RBI and a run. Counts was 2-for-4 with a run.

Miles Kendrick had four of Monroe’s seven hits.

Oak Harbor (2-1-1) opens league play Friday, March 25, at home with Shorecrest (2-3) at 4 p.m. The Wildcats travel to Shorecrest Tuesday, March 29.
