The “barefoot bandit” famously got his start on Camano Island before moving on to bigger and badder things.

Now Camano has another burglar who may be worthy of a catchy monicker, like perhaps “the bacon burglar.”

Prosecutors charged the alleged burglar, 45-year-old Johnny Hicks of Camano Island, in Island County Superior Court June 28 with residential burglary.

On March 14, a Camano Island homeowner reported to police that an apparently hungry burglar had been in his garage overnight. The homeowner said that someone had taken frozen bacon and a pizza from the freezer, then partially consumed both of them. The intruder chewed up and spit out the raw bacon, though some if it was charred in “an unsuccessful attempt to cook it with a candle or lighter,” Deputy Luke Plambeck wrote in his report.

In addition, the burglar drank part of a bottle of wine and a can of Coke, then left cigarette butts on the ground.

Plambeck sent the wine bottle and soda can to the Washington State Patrol crime lab for possible fingerprint identification. On June 22, the lab sent him the results, which identified the fingerprints as belonging to Hicks, court documents state.

The deputy arrested Hicks at his home. Hicks told the deputy that he did not remember committing a burglary, the report states. When asked if he could have been so drunk that he accidentally entered the garage, Hicks replied that “anything’s possible,” the report states.
