B-E downs Oak Harbor

The Oak Harbor boys got plenty of shot opportunites Monday night, they just had a hard time taking advantage of them.

“We played the tempo to our liking, we just didn’t convert offensively as we’d like to,” OHHS coach Bryan Schulle said.

Behind cold shooting, the Wildcats dropped their second game of the season, 63-51, at 3A Burlington-Edison.

Oak Harbor battled toe-to-toe early with the Tigers, ending the first quarter in an 11-11 tie.

An experienced Burlington squad, however, began to inch away after the first, taking a 29-20 halftime lead and a 46-31 lead after three.

“Burlington is an athletic, physical basketball team that is capable of putting up big points,” Schulle said.

Despite the loss, Schulle did see a lot of positives from his team, including a cutback on turnovers and an improved zone offense.

“We also got some solid looks out of our end of quarter quick hitters, which is encouraging,” he said.

The Wildcats had two players score in double figures, including sophomore Rodrick Rumble with a team-high 12 and junior James Leach with 10.

Burlington was led by Gus Montgomery’s game-high 20 points.

Oak Harbor is now 0-2 in non-league play to start the season. They play a makeup game against Bellingham at 7:30 p.m., tonight, Dec. 7 at OHHS. The game was originally scheduled to take place last Thursday, Dec. 1 at Bellingham, but was cancelled due to snow. The contest was moved to Oak Harbor to accommodate the Wildcats, who otherwise would have had to play three road games in one week. OHHS begins its league season at 7:30 p.m., Friday, Dec. 9 at Cascade.
