Seven individuals and a relay team will represent Oak Harbor High School at the state meet at Mount Tahoma High School Thursday through Saturday, May 23-25.

The Wildcats qualified by placing in the top three at the district meet Wednesday and Friday, May 15 and 17, at Marysville-Pilchuck High School.

In the team scoring, the Wildcat boys placed sixth in a tight scramble for fourth. Oak Harbor scored 61 points, Glacier Peak had 63, Stanwood 62 and Marysville Getchell 60. Mountlake Terrace took the title with 107.

The Oak Harbor girls finished seventh with 53.5 points. Glacier Peak won the 11-team meet with 144.

Three Oak Harbor boys won district titles: Jeremy Foster in the shot put (50-09.5), Chris Hailer in the high jump (6) and John Rodeheffer in the 3,200 (9:33.08).

Rodeheffer also qualified in the 1,600, placing second (4:31.56), while Clayton Richardson finished third (4:31.81).

Dayne Herron grabbed third in the shot (46-01) and a state spot.

For the girls, Christina Wicker qualified in two events. She was second in the 800 (2:17.4) and third in the 4×200 relay (1:48.55) with Sierra Seabolt, Matti Miesle and Jessica Hollins.

Alex Laiblin snared the final Oak Harbor state berth with a third in the girls 3,200 (11:17.61).

Earlier this year, Hailer jumped 6-6, the fourth-best height by a state 3A athlete this season. Foster’s district winning mark in the shot is the state’s eighth-best 3A mark.

In other final events for the boys, Richardson ran fourth in the 800 (1:59.51) and Sebastian Ceasar was seventh (2:03.96).

Hailer finished eighth in the triple jump (41-02.5), Jacob Olson ninth in the high jump (5-08), Tyler Adamson 10th in the discus (118-06) and Michael Laningham 10th in the shot (41-02.5).

In the javelin, Carlos Beltran was ninth (139-08) and Piikekai Tarrant 15th (126-06).

Pole vaulters Keenan Davilla (10) and Connor Paramentor (9-06) finished 11th and 13th.

Ceasar, Anthony Alexander, Jayden Davilla and Allen Hills were seven in the 4×100 (45.79); and Josiah Welch, Noel Cheeseboro, Richardson and Patrick Mayer placed eighth in the 4×400 (3:42.53).

For the girls, Wicker (5:16.443), Laiblin (5:22.43) and Jonalynn Horn (5:35.87) ran 5-6-11 in the 1,600. Horn was also ninth in the 3,200 (11:55.08) while McKenzie Schneider placed 13th (12:12.37).

Taylor Deconzo placed fifth in the shot put (32-02), eighth in the javelin (92-05) and 15th in the discus (74-04).

Jackie Dejesus (17.15) and Nalani Gabbert (17.45) finished fifth and seventh in the 100 hurdles.

Oak Harbor earned sixths from Jessica Hollins in the 100 (13.19) and 200 (26.89) and Marisa Sligh in the 800 (2:25.76).

Suzanne Kaltenbach captured seventh in the 400 (1:04.83) and Claire Anderson eighth in the high jump (4-08).

Kaylee Lamb (30-00.75) was 10th and Olivia Hunt (28-01.5) 14th in the shot.

In the triple jump, Hayley Lundstrom (29-06) and Zoeann Bassett (28) finished 13th and 15th.

Jinai Guzman took 14th in the javelin (81-04).

In the relays, Seabolt, Bassett, Miesle and Hollins placed sixth in the 4×100 (51.64); and the 4×400 team of Jember Jansen, Dejesus, Wicker and Kaltenbach was eighth in 4:20.4.

Girls coach Eric Peterson said, “The kids’ performance showed their hard work and dedication to improving throughout the year. It was really fun watching the young kids progress, with many of them competing in their first season of high school track.”

Boys coach Jay Turner said, “I thought that our kids performed very well with lots of PRs.”

He specifically noted the efforts of Rodeheffer in the 3,200, Richardson and Ceasar in the 800 and Foster and Herron in the shot put.
