This month, the Pulitzer Prize-winning play “The Kentucky Cycle” will premiere at the Whidbey Island Center for the Arts in Langley.

“Cycle” is a series of nine fast-paced, one-act plays by Robert Schenkkan that spans 200 years of history, from 1775 to 1975. It examines the myths of the American past which have created, for better or worse, the country we are today.

Exploring violence as part of American life — whether that violence is racial, gender-based or environmental — the play looks at how each generation deals with what the playwright says is the American tendency to use force first and ask questions later.

“The Kentucky Cycle” runs April 9 to 24. Tickets range in price from $12 to $28 with discounts available for seniors, military, youth and groups. They are available at www.wicaonline.com.

The Whidbey Island Center for the Arts is located at 565 Camano Ave. in Langley.
