Wappler heads ‘Living Green’ in Oak Harbor

Andy Wappler, vice president of Corporate Affairs for Puget Sound Energy, will be the keynote speaker at this year’s North Whidbey Island Sustainability Fair, on Saturday, May 8.

“Living Green” will take place at Skagit Valley College’s Whidbey Island Campus in Oak Harbor from noon to 4 p.m.

Wappler will look at the utility’s growth in wind power and new programs for energy efficiency, as well as its support for residential solar power, electric vehicles, and more.

Andy Wappler has been connecting with communities throughout Washington for more than two decades. His background includes communications roles with the Washington Roundtable, The Boeing Company, and The Fearey Group, as well as being a meteorologist and journalist for some of the region’s top television, newspaper and radio outlets.

Sponsored by Skagit Valley College, Sno-Isle Libraries, the city of Oak Harbor, WSU Island County Extension, Island County Public Health Department and Puget Sound Energy, the fair, which is free to the public, will feature a variety of workshops, exhibits, presentations, and children’s activities that focus on ways to incorporate environmentally sound options into island living.

Family activities will include entertainment by the Shifty Sailors and the Fidalgo Youth Symphony Quartet, Creation Station, Like2Bike kickoff, and a bicycle rodeo. In addition, a variety of educational displays are planned including energy/green building, organic gardening, waste wise recycling, “green” fitness routines, and clean water.
