Rock and roll icons to headline Oak Harbor concert series

“Sounds of Summer” kicks off this Wednesday and features two veritable rock and roll legends.

Oak Harbor’s annual “Sounds of Summer” concert series kicks off this Wednesday with a performance featuring two veritable rock and roll legends.

Heart by Heart will perform at 6 p.m. Aug. 2 at Windjammer Park. The band includes bassist Steve Fossen and drummer Michael DeRosier, original members of the band Heart which brought the world such rock classics as “Magic Man,” “Dreamboat Annie” and “Barracuda.”

Heart was founded in 1973 in Seattle. Fossen and DeRosier were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2013 and now tour with vocalist Somar Macek, guitarist Chad Quist and guitarist, keyboardist and vocalist Lizzy Daymont as Heart by Heart.

The band will open the concert series, which will continue throughout the month of August in anticipation of the 10th annual Oak Harbor Music Festival, which will take place over Labor Day weekend.

The concert series continues next week with The Olson Bros Band Aug. 9. On Aug. 16, The Paperboys will take the Windjammer stage, and Whidbey’s Saratoga Orchestra will close out the series Aug. 23 with special guest Deirdre Fairfax.

All concerts in the series are free and open to the public. The concert series is sponsored by Windermere Real Estate Whidbey Island.
