Air Force Airman JACOB T. DUNN graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas.

The airman completed an intensive, eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness, and basic warfare principles and skills.

He is the son of Doug Dunn of E. Sunset Drive, Oak Harbor, and is a 2007 graduate of Oak Harbor High School.

Air Force Airman NIKO S. VALDEZ graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas.

He is the son of Diane Valdez of Olympic Court, Oak Harbor, and a 2009 graduate of Oak Harbor High School.

Air Force Airman 1st Class SARAH C. GARCIA has graduated from the Personnel Apprentice Course at Keesler Air Force Base, Biloxi, Miss.

The airman was trained to perform various Air Force personnel programs, including career development, training, manning, assignments, enlistments, reenlistments and promotions.

Garcia is a personnel apprentice assigned to the 81st Training Wing at Keesler Air Force Base, Biloxi, Miss. The airman has served in the military for less than year. She is the daughter of Edita C. Garcia, and niece of Josefina and Miguel Estrella, all of N.W., 2nd Ave., Oak Harbor.

Navy Seaman Recruit MATTHEW J. JOHNSTON, a 2007 graduate of Oak Harbor High School, recently completed U.S. Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill.

During the eight-week program, Johnston completed a variety of training which included classroom study and practical instruction on naval customs, first aid, firefighting, water safety and survival, and shipboard and aircraft safety. An emphasis was also placed on physical fitness.
