Hedgebrook talent brings three Seattle writers’ works to life

An Evening with Seattle Writers is described as a great opportunity to meet best-selling authors, hear their work be brought to life by local talent and connect with Hedgebrook Women’s Writers Retreat.

Anyone who loves books, writers and great stories won’t want to miss An Evening with Seattle Writers with Erica Bauermeister, Jennie Shortridge and Carol Cassella.

Throughout the evening the authors will read from their books and local actors will perform scenes from them. Hedgebrook Executive Director Amy Wheeler will moderate a lively discussion with all the writers about their work, their writing processes, career trajectories and new works on the horizon. A short question period with the audience will follow.

Langley’s Moonraker Books will sell several titles of each author’s books in the lobby and the authors will be available for signing.

Erica Bauermeister

Erica Bauermeister is the national bestselling author of “The School of Essential Ingredients.” She is also co-author of “500 Great Books by Women: A Reader’s Guide’ and “Let’s Hear It For the Girls: 375 Great Books for Readers 2-14.” She holds a doctorate in English from the University of Washington and has taught literature and writing at the U.W. and Antioch University.

Her books that will be available for sale at WICA on Jan. 16 include “School of Essential Ingredients,” “Joy for Beginners” and “The Lost Art of Mixing,” which was released in early 2013.

 

Jennie

Shortridge

 

Jennie Shortridge is the author of four best-selling novels, including her latest, When She Flew. Her work has also been published in magazines as eclectic as Glamour, Natural Home and Southwest Art.

A founding member of Seattle7Writers.org and an architect of “The Novel: Live,” Shortridge also spends time volunteering with kids at 826 Seattle.

She lives with her husband and cat on a steep slope of Queen Anne hill, and is at work on her fifth novel.

Her books that will be available for sale at WICA are “When She Flew, Love & Biology at the Center of the Universe” and “Eating Heaven.”

 

Carol

Cassella

 

Carol Cassella majored in English literature at Duke University and is a graduate from Baylor College of Medicine. She currently practices anesthesiology in Seattle and is a freelance writer specializing in global public health advocacy for the developing world.

She is the mother of four children, and is working on her third novel.

Cassella’s books that will be available for sale at WICA on Jan. 16 are “Healer” and “Oxygen.” Tickets are $8 and are available by contacting the WICA Ticket Office at 221-8268 or 800-638-7631.
