10 young men have been selected to compete in the first annual Mr. Oak Harbor competition.

The Miss Oak Harbor organization announced that 10 young men have been selected to compete in the first annual Mr. Oak Harbor scholarship competition.

Junior Purcell, Graham Ray, Clayton Valentin, Nolan Saltonstall, Lucas Smith, Rey Madrid and Ka’imi Nero will participate in the Mister Division, while Logan Hendricks, Brian Goodman and Boden Gagnon will compete in the Teen Division.

“We’ve had the honor of working with dozens of girls over the last eight years, and we wanted to extend the same opportunity to high school boys,” Board President River Powers said. “We’re trailblazing here with the Mr. Oak Harbor Scholarship Competition—there is no other program like it, and we’re proud and excited to offer this opportunity.”

Mr. Oak Harbor contestants will compete for thousands of dollars in scholarships in a unique six-week program that focuses on personal and professional growth through the development of leadership, communication and marketability.

This competition is produced by Miss Oak Harbor, a nonprofit organization whose mission is to inspire, challenge and mentor contestants while providing opportunities for them to develop life skills that will enhance their confidence and sense of accomplishment. Those who are crowned will spend their year as a title-holder serving the community.

Since 2015, Miss Oak Harbor has delivered more than $115,000 in scholarships and awards to local high school students.

The event will take place Nov. 11 at Oak Harbor High School. Tickets can be purchased from one of the contestants, online at MissOakHarbor.com, or at the door, if not sold out. Veterans receive half-price entry in honor of Veterans Day.
