Here's what's happening in the Whidbey Island arts scene.

Artists Camille Brighten and Helen Bates will exhibit their WATERCOLOR AND ACRYLIC PAINTINGS at the Oak Harbor Library in September. The library is located at 1000 SE Regatta Dr. Call 675-5115 for details.

Northwest Watercolor Society (NWWS) has announced that Randy Emmons of Oak Harbor has been chosen as one of the 86 artists selected for the 75TH ANNUAL INTERNATIONAL OPEN EXHIBITION that will be on display through Sept. 30 at the Washington State Convention Center, 800 Convention Place, Seattle, Washington. Emmons’ painting, “Life Is Good,” was chosen by internationally known juror Judy Morris out of more than 600 entries from seven countries and 24 states.

ROB SCHOUTEN GALLERY presents “Of Horses and History,” new paintings by Richard Rhydes. The exhibit will be on display from Sept. 4-28. The newest paintings by Richard Rhydes, are a series of still lifes. This unique series of oil paintings combines Rhydes’ love of horses, with his love of art and art history.

Do some LATE NIGHT SHOPPING at Penn Cove Gallery, 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., Sept. 5. Meet with many of the artists, enjoy wine and refreshments and browse the fine art presented by Penn Cove Gallery’s talented collection of local artists. UUCWI will present “Contemplating Texture,” a new art exhibit, beginning Sept. 5. The exhibit features the photography of Charlie Knutila. The gallery will be open and the artist present to chat with visitors from 5-7 p.m. Thursdays, Sept. 17 and 24 and Oct. 1. Additional viewing arrangements can be made by calling 360-321-8656.
