Editor,

When Kelly Emerson was running for Island County Commissioner, she said she believed there was fat in the county budget, but she didn’t know where it was because she hadn’t studied it.

“I’m not being paid to do that yet,” she said.

Since her election in 2008, she has abstained from voting on issue after issue, saying she hadn’t had time to study it.

At the commissioners’ monthly night meeting on July 22, Emerson packed up and left the table while Commissioner Jill Johnson was still speaking.

Asked later why she left before the meeting was over, she said she had nothing more to add to the meeting and she has a personal life that needs attention.

Emerson’s yearly salary as Island County Commissioner is $78,496.32. Will someone please tell me: What are we paying her for?
