See the jobs that don’t exist

It’s the silly season again. The local, state and federal government is busily tearing up perfectly good roads and replacing them with perfectly good roads. They are tearing down schools and housing and replacing it with schools and housing. A cracked window pane produces income for the glazier, but the money could have bought shoes, providing both shoes and glass.

I am sure all this government spending has something to do with widespread corruption. My question is, are you a good enough economist to “see” the jobs that weren’t produced because of the jobs that were?
