As a former Oak harbor resident I read the recent tree story with interest. I think the idea of trees on Pioneer is wrong as they will eventually cause a root issue. Whidbey Island is full of artists, why not line the streets with sculptures? Each could carry a price and they could be replaced periodically.
Look at Hope, B.C., and see a city that attracts tourists just to see its street sculptures. It would create revenue as people took the time to walk Pioneer, create sales for artists and never cause a street issue with roots causing pavement heaving.
