Letter: School board candidates need concrete ideas

Editor,

Regarding “South End school board candidates talk priorities” (Sept. 22 story), thank you for doing your homework and including in the article that one of Dawn Tarantino’s campaign planks (adding shop and keyboarding classes) has already been implemented by the district.

I just moved to South Whidbey and am a new paid subscriber to your paper. It makes me really happy to see that my dollars are going to support high quality journalism.

Tarantino and the other School Board challengers need to up their games if they want to win my support. As a parent of a South Whidbey Public schools student, I need to see examples of why they’ll do a better job than the incumbents. And not just lightning-rod topics like whether to say the Pledge of Allegiance at school board meetings. What are their concrete proposals for improving the lives of our students and shaping them into critical thinkers and compassionate community members?
