Letter: Pay attention to placement of campaign signs

Editor,

How to read a political sign:

A yard sign on private property indicates endorsement of the candidate by the owner or the occupant.

Multiple signs, all of the same political party, says little about any of the individual candidates. It says much more about the owner or occupant.

A sign on private property not authorized by the owner indicates a trespasser.

Any sign on public property indicates a candidate who is a lawbreaker/scofflaw/trespasser who disrespects public property and the public interest, and who should not be trusted with public office.

Island County Public works does a good job of keeping political signs out of the county road right of way and other county properties. One would hope that public properties within the cites can be respected as well. Cities cannot endorse candidates, and violators don’t deserve election.
