Letter: Letter to editor had inaccurate information

Editor,

I recently read Joseph Moreland’s letter in the Oct. 11 Whidbey News Times and am responding to correct some glaringly inaccurate information. He stated that at conception there are two possible outcomes in regard to the combinations of the sex chromosomes, XX or XY.

This is absolutely false.

It is well known that other combinations including XO (Turner Syndrome), XXY (Klinefelter syndrome), XXX (Triple X syndrome), and XYY do occur. Other, more complex variations and intersex conditions can also occur due to a range of genetic factors.
