Help recognize a Coupeville community hero

Volunteers are the backbone of our communities. We would not be able to accomplish all the services we provide to our residents without them. Many people volunteer until age and health issues force them to slow down.

One such Coupeville resident has started to experience that slow down due to health issues after dedicating some 20 hours of volunteer work to the community each week for the past 18 plus years. That individual is Janet Enzmann.

Janet’s love of literature and books led her to the Coupeville Library. She has catalogued books donated to the Friends of the Coupeville Library and organized book sales events, she developed a reference system and archives department for the Island County Museum, been involved with the Coupeville Festival Association for many years assigning craft booths and has donated her service to the Coupeville Parks and Recreation Commission, she volunteered at New Beginnings Thrift Shop in Coupeville and has assisted the Coupeville Lions Club with their Annual Garage Sale for years.

In recognition of Janet’s service to the Coupeville community a committee has selected a bronze cat, 17-inches high, sculpted by Island artist Georgia Gerber, to be placed in the newly expanded Coupeville Library facility in commemoration of the contributions to the community by dedicated citizen and volunteer, Janet Enzmann.

The Bronze Cat sculpture itself is currently being exhibited in the window of the Peoples Bank in Coupeville. Contributions towards the acquisition and installation of the Bronze Cat are being solicited from local citizens, organizations and businesses and may be sent to: Peoples Bank — Bronze Cat, 107 S. Main St. C101, Coupeville WA 98239.
