Instead of closing Clover Valley Elementary, why not sell all the portable classrooms that are scattered throughout the district?
These structures were purchased by previous administrators who must have had difficulty with projecting enrollment, too. Many of these shacks are stuck out in the back forty, away from the prying eyes of building inspectors and fire marshals.
What I would like to know is why smaller and more manageable class loads at the elementary level are such a bad thing. It has never been tried before in Oak Harbor and may even bring up a few math scores.
There must be ways to eventually distribute the kids so that one school is not overloaded while another school is half empty.
Lastly, what are the long-term ramifications of closing a school at a military installation? Would this show the base closure committee our lack of confidence in the future growth of Oak Harbor and its outstanding but troubled school system?
