Build houses on the farm

This letter responds to the Coupeville Port Commission’s levy for more taxes to continue subsidizing the Greenbank Farm debacle. For 11 years, since the port unwisely, and against the constituents’ advice, purchased Greenbank Farm because of rumors “a big developer is going to build hundreds of homes on Greenbank Farm.”

The money-sucking hole has grown deeper year after year. There is no credible plan that the farm will ever cease to be a taxpayer’s money pit. It does not, nor will it contribute to economic development.

We taxpayers held little sway with our government when it came to the federal Wall Street bailout plan, however, we can limit additional waste in support of Greenbank Farm.

This taxpayer would support selling the farm to a non-tax-supported person or entity at our earliest opportunity. Building houses there would contribute to economic development.
