Sailors assigned to the Grey Knights of Patrol Squadron (VP) 46, maintenance department, are working hard to maintain their aircraft and keep the squadron mission-ready.

Currently deployed to the Middle East, the Maintenance department has completed three full engine changes, changed six propellers and four valve housings, all labor-intensive evolutions.

Extreme weather conditions in the region cause a high amount of stress to the P-3C patrol aircraft and its engines. However, the squadron’s Machinist’s Mates have been working around-the-clock to ensure their continuous operation.

“Everyday is an opportunity to be the best at my job,” said Aviation Machinist’s Mate 1st Class Ferdinand Mendoza. “I want to set a good precedent for my fellow Sailors.”

VP-46 sailors have achieved an exceptional level of performance, which has enabled them to achieve a 100 percent mission completion rate during the first month of deployment.

“I work hard for my family. I know it’s difficult for them while I’m away, but they are proud to know I’m serving our country and doing the best I can to make a difference,” said Aviation Machinist’s Mate 1st ClassGary Alejandro.
