Centennial program available

The F8F Bearcat, shown in front, and F7F Tigercat aircraft were the last in a series of propeller-driven fighters built by the Grumman Aircraft Engineering Corporation for the U.S. Navy. Both will be on display Saturday at Naval Air Station Whidbey Island for the Centennial of Naval Aviation event. The public will be able to take an up close look at these aircraft and several other vintage and modern aircraft from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Photo courtesy of NAS Whidbey Island Public Affiars

A program highlighting the Centennial of Naval Aviation event Saturday at Naval Air Station Whidbey Island will be available in Friday’s edition of the Whidbey Crosswind.

Look for a general schedule of events, a look back at the past century of Navy flight and also at some of the aircraft that have called NAS Whidbey Island their home. Meet the first Master Chief to serve at NAS Whidbey and learn a  little more about the man who first flew off a Navy ship.

This program is available online as well, and was also published in Wednesday’s Whidbey News-Times.
