Oak Harbor Marina officials are looking for public feedback about possible facility improvements over the next five years.

An online survey has been developed to determine which projects the public believes are the most important. They range from improvements already planned, such as the replacement of old floats and future dredging efforts, to talked about renovations ranging from new power pedestals to a restroom remodel.

“We’re surveying the community to find out what projects they believe are most important,” said Steve Powers, director of Development Services.

The survey results will help determine priorities for infrastructure and redevelopment projects and assist the Marina Advisory Committee and the Oak Harbor City Council to program resources appropriately.

The marina is an enterprise fund, which means it is financially self-supporting and receives no money from the city’s general fund. Marina occupancy rates have begun to decline, however, and last year the city council agreed to forego a planned moorage rate increase.

Powers said the survey is connected to the drop in occupancy, which is largely being employed as a tool to help guide future planning efforts.

“We’re just trying to figure out what projects to undertake and in what order,” Powers said.
