    A 44-year-old Oak Harbor woman is accused of whacking her boyfriend on the head with a baseball bat because he tore up a gift certificate, according to court documents.
    Sherry Gordon pleaded not guilty in Island County Superior Court Jan. 5 to a single count of second-degree assault with a deadly weapon, a domestic violence charge.

    A 68-year-old Oak Harbor man is accused of molesting a teenaged girl, according to court documents.
    Prosecutors charged Melvin Ross in Island County Superior Court Dec. 24 with child molestation in the second degree. He pleaded not guilty Jan. 5.

    The U.S. Treasury Department wired $26.38 million to Whidbey Island Bank early Friday morning.
    The cash infusion makes Washington Banking Company, the holding company for the Oak Harbor-based bank, the latest in a series of healthy banking companies to participate in the federal government’s Capital Purchase Program, which is part of the controversial $700 billion Troubled Asset Relief Program.

    A search dog tracked down and found an 11-year-old girl whose disappearance Thursday night led to a major search effort on North Whidbey.
    Island County Sheriff Mark Brown said the girl was undoubtedly cold after spending about five hours outside in the dark and wind, but she was returned to her mother in good health.
