    By all accounts, Jaime Villicana-Campos is a wonderful husband and a beloved father to his children.

    He held two physically demanding jobs and worked seven days a week to support his large family. He somehow still made time to spend with his little girls, especially 6-year-old Angelica who suffers from epilepsy. She is particularly close to her doting father and is known in the family as “Daddy’s girl.”

    Island County Commissioner Kelly Emerson and her husband lost their lawsuit against the county and no longer want to build a sunroom on their Camano Island home, but the controversy surrounding the project built without a permit lives on.

    Scientists from the county planning department, the Department of Ecology and Oregon State University identified what they described as numerous and significant flaws in the rambling 130-page wetland report that the Emersons submitted in July, more than nine months after they were ordered to do so by the code enforcement officer.

    Island County prosecutors added another charge against an Oak Harbor man accused of raping a toddler.

    Island County Superior Court Judge Vickie Churchill approved the amended charges against defendant Ryan Stephenson during an Oct. 3 hearing. He pleaded not guilty to rape in the first degree with aggravating circumstances and a special allegation and the new charge of attempted assault of a child in the first degree with aggravating circumstances.

    The Island County Sheriff’s Office is notifying the community about a Level 2 sex offender who has moved to a home on W. Henni Road near Oak Harbor.

    Derion Albright, 54, was convicted of two counts of second-degree child molestation in Lewis County in 1992. The victim was his 12-year-old adopted son, according to the public notification.

    Island County coroner describes ‘savage’ attack on grandfathers

    The 30-year-old man who’s accused of killing his grandfather in what the Island County coroner called “the most savage attack” he’s ever seen was charged Thursday with first-degree murder and first-degree kidnapping.

    Joshua Lambert, a transient who lived in the Oak Harbor area, remains a suspect in a second, equally brutal murder of his other grandfather. The stabbing deaths of the two men, both 80 years old, occurred at separate North Whidbey homes Oct. 3.

    A 30-year-old homeless man named Joshua Lambert stabbed his grandfather and tied up the elderly man’s sister with clear packing tape, leaving her to lie helplessly and watch her brother die, according to a report by the Island County Sheriff’s Office.

    But the horror didn’t end there. Lambert is a suspect in a second deadly stabbing that occurred a short time later at a different North Whidbey home, Island County Prosecutor Greg Banks announced in court Tuesday afternoon.

    Two elderly men were killed in two separate stabbings on North Whidbey this afternoon.

    A man who was named a suspect in one of the killings, 30-year-old Joshua David Lambert of Oak Harbor, was arrested in Oak Harbor just after 5 p.m. Lambert is also “a person of interest” in the other murder, according to Island County Sheriff Mark Brown.

    A 51-year-old Whidbey Island dermatologist accused of choking his girlfriend is wanted on a $100,000 arrest warrant after he didn’t appear at a court hearing this week.

    In addition, a deputy prosecutor filed a motion to hold Dr. Donald “Russell” Johnson in jail without bail because he alleged violated a court order by sending an email to his girlfriend, according to court documents.

    The father of an Oak Harbor fourth-grader who brought a gun to school was arrested Wednesday on suspicion of reckless endangerment.

    Detective Sgt. Teri Gardner with the Oak Harbor Police Department said the 36-year-old Oak Harbor man was very cooperative with police during the investigation, but detectives found evidence that he hadn’t properly stored guns while there was a child in the home.
