I would like to publicly congratulate Bob Severns for winning re-election as mayor of Oak Harbor.

I knocked on around 5,000 doors during the course of the campaign. I probably had at least 500 good conversations with the voters.

Of those conversations, maybe 100 were specifically about the proposed sales tax for road repair. During the whole campaign only one person was in favor of the sales tax increase.

I was greatly surprised that the sales tax passed by a comfortable margin.

I realize that I did not use statistically valid polling methodology. I was wrong in predicting that the measure would fail by a wide margin.

Again, congratulations, Bob.
