Circus hits town Monday

“When the big top for Circus Chimera goes up Monday morning around 10 a.m. at the Seaplane Base in Oak Harbor it will be an exciting show in itself, says Bill Cornell, Kiwanis Club president. And anyone who wants to come and watch is welcome. The circus tent is billed as “the tallest big top in the world.” It’s held up with metal struts and there are no poles in the middle to hold up the tent. There’s one big ring and stadium seating for 1,600.Performances of Circus Chimera are Monday, Aug. 14, at 7:30 p.m. and Tuesday, Aug. 15, at 4:30 and 7:30 p.m. at the Seaplane Base. Advance ticket sales for Circus Chimera are winding down. Only one ticket outlet will be open today. Kiwanis Club members will sell tickets today, Aug. 9, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the foyer of the Whidbey Island Bank branch next to Wendy’s on Highway 20. Advance tickets: $6 for youth 11-14 and seniors over 65; $10 for adults. Children two to 10 years get in free.If seating is available, ticket sales will continue at the circus box offices on Monday at $2 more per ticket. The circus is sponsored by the Kiwanis Clubs of Oak Harbor and Coupeville. Ticket sales raise money for Kiwanis Club projects. For information, call 279-8444. “
