Oak Harbor watercolorist Randy Emmons has had his painting, “Upper Skagit River” accepted into the International Watercolor Society’s INTERNATIONAL WATERCOLOR TRIENNIAL-VARNA 2016 in Bulgaria. The show runs July 15 to Aug. 15.
The artwork of Wendy Ferrier and Anne Smidt is featured in an exhibit entitled “Wax and Wool.” The exhibit will displayed in the foyer ART GALLERY AT UUCWI during the months of March and April. Wendy is a weaver, spinner, dyer and knitter extraordinaire. Some of the yarns she uses are hand-dyed and hand-spun. Smidt works primarily with encaustics, both in paintings and three-dimensional work, enjoying the spontaneity of the process. UUCWI is located approximately one mile north of Freeland at 20103 State Route 525, on the west side of the highway.
ROB SCHOUTEN GALLERY presents “Evoking Ireland,” an exhibit by Alexandra Morosco. The exhibit, which will be on display through March 28, is a sculptural pilgrimage inspired by the people, place and spirit of the Irish landscape through the eyes of a sculptor. Alexandra has lived on Whidbey Island for 14 years, but is just now revealing her work to her community. Works include sculptures in stone and bronze inspired by the land which has captured Morosco’s imagination, presented along with photographs of Ireland. Evoking Ireland is an abbreviated version of the full scale exhibition, which will be in production through 2016. When completed, the work will travel to Chicago, Boston and eventually return “home” to make an appearance in Cork City and Galway, Ireland. There will also be a St. Patrick’s weekend artist’s presentation from 2-4 p.m. Sunday, March 20.
Gary Leake is PENN COVE GALLERY’s featured artist for March. Woodworker artist Leake will visit the gallery from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, March 26, with some of his woodworking tools. Leake’s passion is to search the countryside for a special, one-of-a-kind, piece of timber and turn it into a unique, finely engineered, beautiful piece of furniture which is a true work of art. Leake’s technique is influenced by methods and styles of earlier times, using antique woodworking tools and skills. Visit www.garyaleakewoodworking.com for more information.
