Washingtonians, I would like to briefly reply to the Dan Thompson letter (Whidbey News-Times, March 3). To summarize his letter, he feels he is paying more than his fair share of taxes and would like for us on Whidbey Island to pay more.
Folks, don’t get distracted by the static. Keep focused on what’s going on in Olympia. Our elected officials have hijacked this state for their own purposes, and that purpose is to separate the hard working people of this state from their earnings. The longer I watch this legislative session go on, the more I believe that our representatives are of the opinion that they don’t work for we the people, but that we work for them.
I totally understand the need for taxes and gladly pay what is needed for the good of the state. However, the answer to our fiscal deficit is not bigger government, but controlled spending. Clearly state government has outgrown the people they govern.
In summary, I would say to Dan Thompson and the rest of Washington, don’t point fingers at each other, the problem is in Olympia and we all need to contact our representatives and let them know how we feel about their out of control spending practices.
