Hoop-Ville kids camp at CHS

Coupeville High School presents a kids basketball camp for boys and girls in grades third through sixth from 9 a.m. to noon Dec. 29 through 31.

The cost is $30 per player and includes a basketball and a T-shirt.

This camp will break down the sport of basketball into fundamentals that all athletes, no matter what their skill level, need to succeed.

Coaches will lead the players through drills and group games that focus on ball handling, defense, passing, shooting and rebounding.

Kids league basketball

Boys and girls in kindergarten through sixth grade are invited to play in the Northwest Basketball Association’s recreational league.

This is a recreational league that stresses fun first.

Teams will be made up of kindergarten through second-graders, third and fourth-graders and fifth and sixth-graders.

Traditionally, the kindergarten through second-grade teams have been co-ed.

The cost to play is $35 per player if applications are post marked on or before Dec. 12. After that, the cost is $45 per player.

Also, a $5 deduction will be given for each additional sibling if registering at the same time.

Application forms may be obtained at 7-Eleven, Big 5 Sporting Goods or at the Oak Harbor schools district office.

A form may also be downloaded off the league’s Web site.

Hoopin’ Holiday Camp

Area basketball players in first through eighth-grades are invited to attend the Hoopin’ Holiday Camp Dec. 22 through 24 at Oak Harbor High School.

This is a chance to come out and work on your basketball skills under the guidance of Oak Harbor High School girls basketball coaches and players.

Camp times for players in first through fifth-grades will be from 9 to 10 a.m., and the sixth through eighth-graders camp is scheduled from 10 to 11 a.m.

The cost of the camp is $35 per athlete and guarantees a T-shirt if applications are postmarked by Monday, Dec. 15.

This camp is for boys and girls of all skill levels, and is a great way to have fun and stay active during the holiday break. Sign up now and reserve your space for this great opportunity to work on your game.

Register now for S.W.I.S.H

The Skagit County Parks and Recreation Department is accepting team registrations for the 2009 boys S.W.I.S.H. (Skagit, Whatcom, Island, Snohomish Hoops) basketball league.

The league consists of divisions for fourth/fifth, sixth, seventh and eighth-grade boys with different levels of play in each age division.

Games will begin on Saturday, Jan. 10, with games played in Mount Vernon and Sedro-Woolley.

The team entry fee is $460 and includes an 11-game guarantee.

Free clinics at OHHS

Oak Harbor youth basketball players, both boys and girls, are invited to attend free clinics on Saturdays at the high school beginning Dec. 6 and continuing through February.

These clinics are for players in grades first through eighth, and will be conducted under the guidance of Oak Harbor High School players and coaches.

The clinics for players in first through fifth-grades will be from 9 to 10 a.m., and the clinics for grades six through eight will be from 10 to 11 a.m.

The primary focus of the clinics is on skill, development and basic basketball terminology, and are designed for boys and girls of all skill levels and will serve as a great way to have some fun while working on their games.

The theme of our clinics is to put the “fun” in fundamentals.

Signup for boys masters

The Skagit County Parks and Recreation Department is accepting registrations for the Boys Masters Basketball League for high school boys that are not on a high school basketball team.

Games will be played on Sunday afternoons at Skagit Valley College starting Dec. 21.

Separate divisions of play offered for ninth/tenth graders and eleventh/twelveth graders.

The team entry fee is $360 and is due by Monday, Dec. 8.

Each team is required to have same color and numbered jerseys, as well as an adult coach, 21 years or older, on the bench.

Calling skiers, snowboarders

South Whidbey Parks and Recreation’s Snowrider program is now taking registrations for the youth Saturday program and adult Tuesday program — your ride to the mountains this winter. Pickups will be made in Coupeville and South Whidbey, plus an Everett pickup on the Tuesday bus.

Never skied or boarded? Come out and learn something new. Programs are available for youth and adults to get you to the mountain and onto the slopes.
