A 25-year-old Oak Harbor woman is accused of slamming a toddler against a wall, choking one woman and throwing a bottle at another on Feb. 28, according to court documents.
Prosecutors charged Michaela Clay in Island County Superior Court March 2 with assault in the second degree, assault of a child in the third degree and reckless endangerment. All of the charges are considered to be domestic violence crimes.
The report by an officer with the Oak Harbor Police Department states that Clay had friends over at her home to have a few drinks after work. The officer described her as “extremely intoxicated.”
An alleged victims reported that Clay became upset and threw a bottle at a friend’s face, the report states.
The woman said she went to the bedroom and saw Clay standing over her 2-year-old daughter with her fist raised as if she was going to punch the child, the report states.
The woman pushed Clay out of the way and picked up the child. Clay ran up to the woman as she was walking away and ripped the child from her arms; the woman said Clay grabbed the toddler by the arm and flung her into a wall “with a great amount of force,” the report states.
Clay then tackled the woman to the floor and choked her, the report states.
The child was taken to the hospital for evaluation and an X-ray, the officer wrote.
