Letter: Hannold’s misleading claims show desperation

Editor,
I just received a campaign mailing from Rick Hannold who is desperate to hold onto his job as a county commissioner.
His desperation shows by the blatant misrepresentations in his mailing. He “Protected NAS Whidbey.” He “Saved Island Transit.” He “led the fight” against fish farms.
Of course, he did none of these things. Politicians often exaggerate their accomplishments and minimize their failings. This mailing went way beyond exaggerating Hannold’s role in these matters.
He also used his mailing to mischaracterize the positions of his opponent, Janet St Clair. As Editor Keven Graves noted in an editorial in the Whidbey News-Times, Rick Hannold has a habit of attaching labels on those with whom he disagrees. Hannold is not comfortable with the give-and-take of the democratic process. He has not yet learned that he represents all the citizens of Island County. He dismisses and denigrates some citizens and sucks up to others.
Don’t pay any attention to these smear tactics. Listen to what the candidates themselves are saying. Analyze their positions and then vote for the best woman for the job.
