“We played a sloppy but good game,” Coupeville softball coach Kevin McGranahan said in regard to his club’s contest at Klahowya Monday, April 30.

Th sloppy was a series of errors, wild pitches and passed balls that allowed Klahowya to stick around.

The good was the 12-7 win and a power display at the plate. The Wolves scored five runs in the eighth inning to finish the conference season unbeaten, sweeping all three games from the Eagles. Katrina McGranahan and Chelsea Prescott each slugged home runs; Veronica Crownover walloped three doubles; and Hope Lodell added a two-bagger.

Coupeville will play three non-league games before heading to the playoffs May 15.

Lakewood (11-4), a tough 2A team, visits Coupeville at 4 p.m. Friday, May 4.

After the Eagles scored a run on a passed ball in the seventh inning that sent the game to extra innings, Coupeville exploded for five runs in the eighth to secure the win.

Hits by Crownover and Lodell, two walks and two errors fueled the big inning.

Coupeville got off to a good start with three runs in the first inning behind singles from Lauren Rose and McGranahan and a double by Crownover.

The Eagles scored one in the first, then Coupeville made it 4-1 with Prescott’s home run in the third.

The Wolves added two runs in the fourth on a couple of errors and a hit by Prescott.

Klahowya tied it up with three runs in the fourth and two in the fifth.

Coupeville regained the lead when McGranahan homered in the sixth.

Crownover finished with four hits, including her three doubles, and drove in three runs.

McGranahan had three hits, three runs and two RBI; and Prescott had two hits and scored two runs.

Lodell added a single and double.

Rose singled once and walked three times.

Catcher Sarah Wright led the defense by throwing out three baserunners.

“We could have folded up our tents and went home with a 2-1 split,” coach McGranahan said after the Wolves’ mistakes allowed the Eagles to get back in the game. “Instead our girls buckled down and continued to play.”
