After a big offensive output Friday, the Coupeville High School softball team couldn’t get untracked Saturday.
The Wolves slugged 12 hits in a five-inning 18-0 thumping of visiting Meridian April 6; then came up empty at home in two wind-blown losses, 12-0 and 10-0, to Forks April 7.
Coupeville, now 6-3 this season, plays a non-league game at Friday Harbor (2-4) at noon Saturday, April 14.
Coupeville 18, Meridian 0 (five innings)
The Wolves’ Lauren Rose started the bottom of the first with a triple and the rout of the Trojans (2-6) was on.
Singles by Sarah Wright, Chelsea Prescott and Mollie Bailey followed Rose’s hit as Coupeville scored six times in the first inning.
Two walks, two hit batters, two errors and Coral Caveness’s base hit fueled a seven-run second inning.
Prescott doubled in the third and scored on Veronica Crownover’s single.
Wright smashed a home run and Scout Smith and Crownover singled in the four-run fourth inning.
Crownover finished with three hits, three RBI and two runs; Wright had two hits, two RBI and three runs; and Prescott recorded two hits and three runs.
Starting pitcher Katrina McGranahan gave up only one hit in four innings and struck out seven.
“Pretty lopsided win today, but sometimes it is good to be able to just go and have fun,” coach Kevin McGranahan said. “It was close until they got off the bus.
“Great job by everyone, and pitching was on point.”
Forks 12, Coupeville 0 (six innings)
The Spartans (7-2) put the game away with eight runs over the fifth and sixth innings.
“Long story short, Forks hit the ball and we didn’t,” coach McGranahan said.
Forks out-hit Coupeville 9-4.
Smith collected two of the Wolves’ hits; McGranahan and Bailey had the others.
Pitcher McGranahan finished with nine strikeouts.
Forks 10, Coupeville 0 (five innings)
Forks’ freshman pitcher Chloe Leverington threw a one-hitter, a third-inning single by Rose, and struck out 10.
Bailey walked, also in the third, and was the only other Coupeville base runner.
