Although the Coupeville High School soccer team fell 4-2 at Sequim Friday, March 16, the match wasn’t a total loss.
Coach Kyle Nelson called Sequim “a good 2A school, our first real strong opponent of the season.”
As a result, the match, Coupeville’s first loss of the season, was “a great game for us to work on some things, and we came away from the game a better team.”
Coupeville kept Sequim (2-0-1) in check much of the first half, but a late charge gave the winners a 3-0 lead at the break.
“We made some adjustments…and were able to take the second half,” Nelson said.
Both Coupeville goals came from quick counterattacks by Derek Leyva.
Coupeville (2-1) goes to North Mason (1-1-1) at 4 p.m. Thursday, March 22.
